MABS Regional Manager for Mindanao and Senior Management Information System (MIS) Manager Anthony Petalcorin presented on MIS for the microfinance and rural finance sector at the Mindanao Microfinance Information and Communications Technology Fair.

The Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) Program shared its expertise on Management Information Systems (MIS) for rural banks at the Microfinance Information and Communications Technology Fair (MICTF) held last June 15-16 in Davao City.

The fair was intended to raise awareness on and promote the use of information and communications technology (ICT) for more efficient microfinance operations. With ICT providers and users from the country’s microfinance and rural finance sector in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in attendance, the event also served as a venue for both ICT users and providers to interact, allowing them to see each other’s needs and what each sector has to offer.

As part of the forum’s MIS cluster, Senior Management Information System (MIS) Manager Anthony Petalcorin discussed MIS for microfinance institutions (MFIs), citing a series of regional consultations conducted by PinoyMe on the use of IT-enabled MIS. The consultations, which were conducted to develop an “MIS Automation Guide for Philippine Microfinance Institutions”, show the seeming disparity between the demand and the supply of IT-enabled MIS. From these, Mr. Petalcorin cited a number of ways through which the demand can be met by ICT providers.

The fair and forum were organized by the Mindanao Microfinance Council, Inc (MMC), a network organization of 41 Mindanao-based MFIs. These MFIs are working together to reduce poverty in Mindanao while providing its members with capacity development support for continuous growth.
