In line with the Program’s continuing technical support and assistance to participating banks’ mobile phone banking rollout, MABS and G-Xchange Inc. (GXI) conducted mobile phone banking service (MBPS) training for First Macro Bank on July 17, 2009. Sixteen bank staff from four of the bank’s branches attended the training held at First Macro Bank’s head office in Pateros. The training outlined the history of the bank’s MPBS rollout in 2004 and presented the benefits of mobile phone banking to all parties. The following were also discussed in detail: the features of GCASH, the electronic money platform used in MPBS transactions; and basic mobile phone banking transactions including as Text-A-Deposit, Text-A-Withdrawal, Text-A-Payment, Text-A-Sweldo (salary) and Text-A-Remittance. To guide the bank as they draft their MPBS action plan, key factors that have driven the successful rollout of other MABS participating banks offering mobile phone banking services were discussed.

One of the pioneer MPBS banks, First Macro will be re-launching and actively promoting MPBS to reach and effectively serve more clients.
